The City of Broken Hill is a local government area in the Far West region of New South Wales, Australia. The area contains an isolated mining city, Broken Hill, located in the outback of New South Wales and is surrounded by the Unincorporated Far West Region. The City is located adjacent to the Silver City and Barrier Highways and the Broken Hill railway line.

Broken Hill City Council is committed to safeguarding its public art collection by preserving the City’s artistic legacy and enhancing the cultural value, to ensure that it continues to enrich the lives of residents and visitors. As such, Council invites quotation for the restoration and preservation of critical art pieces which were identified in a public art audit condition report, prepared by specialist firm Grimwade Conservation Services in 2022.

The condition report identified 24 artworks with a rating of “Fair”, all of which require attention due to environmental exposure and other deteriorating factors. This Quotation seeks to comprehensively restore the artworks to their original condition and ensure their long term preservation and aesthetic integrity.

Total expected timeframe is 19-26 weeks, the duration varies based on the extent of community engagement and complexity of the works.

Council requires completion during the 2025-2026 financial year.

A Public Art Audit Condition Report 2023 was undertaken by specialist firm, Grimwade. The audit identified all areas of an item needing attention and included notes to guide repair work. During 2024/2025, 10 of the highest priority art works identified in the Report which were classified with a rating of “Very Poor”, “Poor” and “Fair” underwent restoration and preservation works.Stage 2 of the public art restoration works will include the those works requiring treatment with a high or medium priority rating and classified as 'fair condition'.
