What the buyer is requesting
Details
Request for Information (RFI) – TMRICTRFI26178 Wildlife Detection Technology.
TMR is seeking information on available and emerging solutions that support a range of capabilities associated with wildlife management in road environments. The capabilities are divided into four core pillars: Detection, Identification, Monitoring and Alerting. At a high level, TMR is interested in identifying technologies that can fully or partially support the four pillars:
1. the automated detection of wildlife near the State Road Network.
2. automated wildlife classification and identification. (accurate identification of wildlife species)
3. automated monitoring of wildlife road-crossing activity and/or in proximity to road infrastructure.
4. the automated generation of real-time alerts/notifications/warnings when wildlife is detected on or near road environments/corridors, together with reporting and analytics to support driver awareness.
Background information / Compatibility requirements
Details
Wildlife–vehicle collisions are an ongoing challenge across road networks and can present safety risks to road users, contribute to wildlife injury and mortality, and create operational, maintenance and environmental management impacts.
While static wildlife warning signs are deployed across parts of the State Road Network to warn drivers to the potential presence of wildlife, their effectiveness in influencing driver behaviour or reducing collision incidents may be limited.
As part of its ongoing commitment to improving road safety outcomes and exploring innovative approaches to network management, TMR is investigating the current state of wildlife detection and driver warning technologies. Advances in sensing, monitoring, communications and artificial intelligence technologies may provide opportunities to improve the real-time detection of wildlife on or near roads and support more targeted warnings to drivers.
Desired Outcomes ('Nice to haves', Conditions & Warranties, SLA's, Project benefits)
Details
Through this market engagement, TMR aims to better understand the range of technologies currently available, emerging industry capabilities, and potential future applications that may assist in addressing wildlife-vehicle collision risks across the transport network.
