Question
:
Good morning GCWA,
As the project site is exposed with lots of traffic, environmental design parameters (wind, vessel wake, wave, currents) are critical for design however we don’t see these parameters detailed in the specification document.
Can we please request that you nominate the required site design parameters so all tenderers have the same basis of design - including design capacity of constructed piles or, failing this, a Geotech report and piling records so as constructed capacities can be assessed.
Thank you.

This Notice to Tenderers is issued to inform that it will be the responsibility of the successful tenderer's designer and certifying RPEQ to determine the design parameters, including wind, vessel wake, wave and currents, as part of the design process. The current facility was constructed by the City of Gold Coast. The as-constructed documents provided in Attachment E of Part 5 Specification is what has been provided from the City of Gold Coast.
The following minimum design criteria is required.
- Wind speeds - in accordance with AS1170.2 applied in accordance with AS4997 & AS3962.
- Waves – at a minimum a Hs = 0.5m should be used, with maximum wave height determined by appropriate means.
- Currents – In accordance with AS3962 a minimum 1m/s design current speed shall be used even if it is believed that current speeds at the site are likely to be less than this.
- Vessel Berthing – 5 tonne vessel at 0.3m/s
We note that due to the request to utilise existing piles at the site, and their condition below the seabed unable to be inspected, the certification that can be provided around these will be adequately conditioned/disclaimed by the tenderer's designer and certifying RPEQ. Piles shall be assumed to be suitable for their current application and as such designing a new floating walkway with the same or lesser draft will impose the same or lesser design loads on the piles.
Additional supporting information;
Geotechnical testing was undertaken for GCWA nearby to the site in 2020 (for other purposes).
These testing results are provided as an attachment to this notice (these are an extract from the geotechnical report) and is located in the document downloads.
