Byron Shire is a local government area located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. The shire is located adjacent to the Tasman Sea about 50 kilometres (31 mi) south of the Queensland border. The shire, administered from the town of Mullumbimby, covers an area of 566.7 square kilometres (218.8 sq mi), and has existed as a local government entity since 1906. The shire was named for Cape Byron, itself named by Captain Cook in May 1770 in honour of Vice-Admiral John Byron.

Details
Council is seeking a contractor to purchase and remove scrap metal and lead acid batteries from its Byron Resource Recovery Centre in Myocum, and Byron Bay Council Depot .

The removal of scrap metal is to be handled by the contractor providing the required number of different sized RORO bin(s) and/or skip bins for Council to load with Ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals. The contractor is then expected to collect and transport material to a licensed recycling facility on an as-need by Council basis.

The removal of scrap lead acid batteries is to be achieved by the contractor providing an agreed amount of bunded pallets for Council to load, and the contractor to collect and transport to a licensed recycling facility on an as needed by Council basis. It is preferred that the contractor is B-cycle certified as part of the battery recycling.

At this stage, Council does not intend to amend the advertised closing date. The tender has been released for a period that Council considers sufficient to allow respondents to prepare and submit a response.

Is Council open to awarding this contract to multiple contractors, for example one for scrap metal and one for lead acid batteries, or will a single contractor be appointed for the full scope?

Council is seeking submissions for the full scope of services described in the Request for Tender. At this stage, respondents are required to submit a tender addressing all aspects of the specified service requirements.
