The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) is seeking to engage a suitably qualified and experienced contractor to undertake the Design and Construction of the Mapoon New Treated Water Reservoir Project. The works includes geotechnical investigations and surveying to support the design of a new treated water reservoir and future upgrades to the Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The scope of works also includes the demolition and removal of the existing steel structure, relocation of two sheds for repurposing by Council, remediation of the existing 1.2 ML concrete reservoir, and the design, supply, delivery, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and performance testing of a new treated water reservoir.

A non-mandatory Industry Briefing will be held at 10:30am AEST, 16 September 2026. Tenderers are required to register their attendance by sending an email to Procurement@dlgwv.qld.gov.au to the attention of Florine Vega-Hughes, by 14 September 2026, detailing the name/s and contact details of attendees (email address and mobile number).

Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council (MASC) is an Aboriginal community in Cape York, 80 km north of Weipa on the mouth of the Wenlock River, and approximately 700 km west of Cairns with current population of approximately 432 people (from 2021 census data) and is one of 16 Indigenous councils in Queensland. With projected annual population growth of approximately 6% annually over the next 10 years (DWQMP 2025), the demand for essential services, including safe and reliable drinking water, is expected to increase.

The current water infrastructure is serviceable but aged and requires investment to upgrade assets and technology for a sustainable water supply system for the community.

The project is to investigate the construction of a new reservoir and the repair of two existing concrete reservoirs. Reservoir 1 was constructed in 2021 with a1.2 ML capacity and the older Reservoir 2, with a capacity of 0.22ML.
