Background:

The desired outcome of this RFT is to enter into a Lump Sum Contract with an appropriately experienced Contractor for the Design & Construction of the Lake Albert weir replacement, installation of new culverts, and associated upgrades and reinstatement in accordance with the tender documentation.

The works to be performed by the Contractor include the provision of all labour, supervision, materials, equipment, designs, overheads, administration, taxes, wages, accommodation, transport, allowances, consumables, testing services and any other incidental costs, to construct the works in accordance with this Contract.

Scope:

The Scope of Works under this RFT is to demolish the existing Lake Albert weir, construct a new weir with an operable gate, connect to the stormwater infrastructure, install outlet culverts, and reinstate.

The works to be performed by the Contractor include the provision of all labour, supervision, materials, equipment, designs, overheads, administration, taxes, wages, accommodation, transport, allowances, consumables, testing services and any other incidental costs, to construct the works in accordance with this Contract.

Pre-tender Briefing:

A non-compulsory pre-tender briefing will be held at Wagga Wagga City Council Civic Centre at 11am on Tuesday 15th July 2025.

Question:
After speaking to the Penstock supplier, it appears that the wrong gates have been specified. The ULF gates are used for regulating a flow, not sealing it off. The top water level of 191.5m AHD would not be achievable with this design and different gates need to be specified.

After speaking to the Penstock supplier, it appears that the wrong gates have been specified. The ULF gates are used for regulating a flow, not sealing it off. The top water level of 191.5m AHD would not be achievable with this design and different gates need to be specified.

Confirming ULF gates are not the preferred solution. A combination of undershot and downward opening gates is the preferred solution. This will allow skimming (decanting) of the surface water of the lake, as well as operational flexibility to lower the Lake water to invert levels.
