Business Info
Founded in 1865, Queensland Rail has a proud history of connecting Queensland communities and supporting local jobs, industries and economies. We are committed to providing a customer-focused, safe, modern and world-class rail service for Queenslanders.
With total assets of $8.0 billion, and a network that extends more than 6,600 kilometres across the state, we are also focused on providing customers and Queenslanders with an efficient and value for money service.
Our 7,500 strong workforce delivers services across our South East Queensland and Regional networks, including Travel and Tourism services and Regional Freight.
Our South East Queensland team provides 8,392 services each week, supporting our customers to reach their destination safely and on-time. In 2019-2020, 44 million passenger trips were taken on the South East Queensland network (a decrease of approximately 20 per cent compared to 2018-2019, associated with COVID-19).
The Regional networks commuter and rail tourism markets are serviced by the Travel and Tourism products. These comprise eight services connecting Regional communities across Queensland with other Regional centres and the South East Queensland corner. These services support the Queensland tourism industry through the provision of unique rail tourism experiences including special events and charters through the operation of a small fleet of heritage services.
Our Regional networks and Freight team provides rail access for freight operators and other Queensland Rail supply chain customers to enable the critical transport of resources and general freight across the state.
We are proud of the role we play in providing vital passenger and freight services and we are dedicated to ensuring that our systems, procedures and practices reflect the highest standards of corporate governance.

What the buyer is requesting
Details
Queensland Rail is seeking to establish a partnership with a supplier for the ongoing provision of data, reporting, analytics, data and AI governance, and AI automation services. Queensland Rail is embarking on a digital transformation journey. Key to this journey are data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and analytics capabilities and technologies that better enable Queensland Rail to leverage data as a strategic asset and AI as a strategic enabler. While Queensland Rail has foundational technologies in place (see Scope of Services, Attachment A), there is a growing requirement to leverage these technologies and mature organisational data capabilities.
Supporting this transformation are internal Data & Automation and Data & AI Governance teams with the following high-level responsibilities:
• Supporting the delivery of new and existing data, analytics, data & AI governance and AI capabilities and solutions.
• Supporting internal teams in the production of data visualisations and data science initiatives.
• Promoting the value of data, analytics and AI and driving an uplift in data and AI literacy.
• Producing strategic and operational data, analytics and AI artefacts, roadmaps, standards and governance frameworks.
• Safely and reliably implementing AI whilst upholding new and existing governance frameworks.
These responsibilities need to be scaled in response to business demand and often involve new technologies. As such, there is a reliance on industry partners for assistance. There is also a requirement for additional capacity and capability to support the Data & Automation and Data & AI Governance teams’ implementation of other use cases, which is the focus of this engagement.
