What the buyer is requesting
Details
The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and its partner agencies are seeking market information regarding professional PostgreSQL support services. This Request for Information (RFI) is part of a two-stage procurement approach to gather market insights and better define DPI’s requirements.
This RFI is for information gathering only and is not a competitive evaluation or shortlisting process. There will be no scoring or ranking of responses at this stage. A subsequent Request for Quote (RFQ) will be issued shortly after to invite formal proposals based on insights from this RFI.
The objective of this RFI is to understand the current supply market, available support models, pricing structures, and contracting preferences, to inform the final RFQ scope and evaluation criteria.
Background information / Compatibility requirements
Details
The key objectives of this RFI are to:
• Identify suppliers with the technical capability and experience to support PostgreSQL in production environments.
• Understand the market’s capacity to provide 24x7 support and real-time incident response.
• Determine the available support for secondary PostgreSQL components such as PostGIS, PgAudit, PgBackRest, and replication/high-availability solutions.
• Gather insights into innovative service delivery approaches that improve resilience and reduce downtime.
• Inform the development of a well-targeted RFQ including appropriate scope, evaluation criteria, and contractual arrangements.

Question
:
Hi team,
• Could you provide an overview of your current PostgreSQL deployment, including the approximate number of database instances and environments in use?
• Which versions of PostgreSQL are currently managed, and which version constitutes the majority of your deployment? Additionally, please specify the latest version in operation.
• Are your PostgreSQL deployments distributed across various operating system versions? If so, what is the primary OS currently supporting your PostgreSQL landscape?
• Is PostgreSQL predominantly deployed on-premises or in cloud environments within your organization? Please share any relevant details regarding your deployment strategy.
• What support model do you prefer: exclusively onshore, or would a hybrid (onshore-offshore) cost-effective approach be suitable for your needs?
• Do you have a roadmap for expanding or migrating your PostgreSQL environment? Are any upgrades or cloud migrations planned in the near future?
• Is your PostgreSQL database deployed as an enterprise-supported edition (such as via EDB), managed through platforms like AWS RDS or Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or operated as a community/open-source edition managed internally with custom configurations?
• Over the past 6–12 months, what has been the average monthly ticket volume for this environment, broken down by incidents, service requests, and change requests?
