The procurement involves the supply, installation, and commissioning of replacement X-Ray equipment at Princess Alexandra Hospital. This includes associated hardware, software, integration with existing imaging systems, and staff training.

Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is a 780-bed tertiary referral centre and one of Queensland’s leading academic and research hospitals. PA Hospital is a high-volume tertiary referral centre providing emergency, specialist and statewide services. Demand for diagnostic imaging continues to increase, as evidenced by growth in advanced imaging activity and the expansion of hospital infrastructure. This results in the need to investment in additional medical imaging capacity.

The fixed Digital Radiography (DR) systems located within the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) Emergency Department (ED) and Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic are critical clinical assets that support timely diagnosis, patient management, and service delivery. As a major tertiary referral hospital and one of Metro South Health’s busiest facilities, PAH relies on high-performing and reliable imaging equipment to support emergency care, infectious disease management, and increasing patient demand.

The existing DR systems, including the shared X-ray machine servicing the Resus 1 and Resus 2 rooms within the ED, and the DR servicing the TB Clinic, have been identified as high-priority replacements under the Health Technology Equipment Replacement (HTER) Program due to their age, performance limitations, and alignment with Metro South Health’s strategic equipment lifecycle planning. Replacement of these ageing systems will improve image quality, patient throughput, operational efficiency, and equipment reliability, while ensuring ongoing compliance with contemporary clinical and technical standards. An infrastructure readiness assessment conducted by Metro South Health Engineering confirmed that the ED and TB Clinic rooms are suitable for the proposed upgrades, supporting progression to procurement and installation planning.
