Business Info
The Central Highlands region is in Central Queensland, Australia. The region encompasses an area of around 60 000 square kilometres, making it just short of the size of Tasmania.

It is home to around 30 000 people who live in the thirteen unique communities of Arcadia Valley, Bauhinia, Blackwater, Bluff, Capella, Comet, Dingo, Duaringa, Emerald, Rolleston, Sapphire Gemfields, Springsure and Tieri.

Our region is rich in minerals and agriculture, thriving on irrigation sourced from water storage on the Nogoa and Comet rivers. We claim the largest sapphire-producing fields in the Southern Hemisphere.

Major freight routes through the region include the north-south link between Charters Towers and northern New South Wales—identified as the inland transport alternative between Cairns and Melbourne.

o Welded to existing rail posts 200mm above current block height

o To be sealed at each end

o Made from 25nb x 3mm galvanised pipe

· Dip Self Closing Gates

o As per example diagrams attached

o To have a spacing of 400mm between the gate bars from either side

o Can be loosely spring loaded or designed in a way that the gate bars will close automatically

o Rails to be set equally between 600 - 1200mm at lowest point o Must be designed so end gate can still be locked shut

IMPORTANT NOTE:

A template must be provided to demonstrate to the stakeholders what the gate will look like and the spacings of the bars. Will not need to be an operational template
Background information / Compatibility requirements
Details
Central Highlands Regional Council (Council) is the owner of the Emerald Saleyards, which includes a livestock dip used treatment of stock. During operation, movement of animals through the dip can cause the dip solution to splash onto the concrete walkway. This results in a wet surface that can compromise footing for personnel assisting animals through the dip. Council intends to construct an elevated false walkway to ensure personnel can operate above the wet section of the existing walkway and maintain secure footing.

At present, the exit end of the dip does not have a gate installed during use. In this configuration, animals may move back into the dip from the wrong direction, which can impede the flow of stock exiting the dip or result in animals entering the dip and being unable to turn around to exit. Council proposes the installation of a suitably designed gate that will allow animals to exit into the draining pen while preventing re-entry into the dip from the opposite direction.
