Question
:
Please can you confirm what is permitted with the communications cable relocation. Are Telstra completing this work directly for Council / do we just need to supervise the works, or have Telstra advised that it can be relocated under the project and we can engage an electrical / comms contractor to complete the works (or do they need to be accredited by Telstra to complete the works?)
Answered on 22/Apr/2026 04:59 PM
:
See full communication from Telstra below:
As discussed, there are currently no active services running through this cable. However, Telstra still has a legal required to maintain the asset should a service be requested in the future. On that basis, if your contractors can accommodate the following methodology, it will satisfy Telstra’s requirements:
• Remove the existing cable as required to facilitate the culvert installation and bank grading works.
• Install a new P50 communications conduit along the same alignment as the existing infrastructure, positioned a minimum of 300 mm below the proposed works subgrade, extending to the point where the existing cable/conduit is cut.
• The conduit is to be installed as a single continuous length, fully glued, with no bends (other than natural slope or flex) and with the ends capped.
• Install two white-painted star pickets, one on either side of the conduit, to mark the location and depth of the ends.
• Provide photos of the conduit install (before, during and after the more the better)

Please confirm the correct total length of the culverts as indicated on Drawing Nos. IDM01239-30.05-400 and IDM01239-30.05-1201 compared to the Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
The drawings show four (4) box culverts (2400x900), each 14.4m long, for a total calculated length of 57.6m (14.4m × 4).

Yes, the thickness of the concrete slab is not fixed; however, a minimum thickness of 210mm is required. The final slab thickness will depend on the level difference between the top of the culvert and the finished surface level.
