Details
Mornington Shire Council is seeking Tenders from suitably qualified suppliers for the refurbishment of 6 Demountable building containing 24 single rooms at the Visitors Accommodation Centre on Mornington Island as described in the attached document MSC-26-C-0031 Scope.

A mandatory site visit is required between 14 and 17 September 2026.
Background information / Compatibility requirements
Details
Gununa (Mornington Island) is located in the Gulf of Carpentaria and accessible by air with Rex Airlines. Freight is delivered to Mornington Island via barge services provided by Carpentaria Freight which has a depot in Cairns.

Accommodation is available on the Island and can be booked via Council's website.

Gununa has a supermarket, butcher shop, and a gym. There is a jetty for recreational fishing. There is an overview of these facilities on Council's website.

The Island has an alcohol management plan in place, and visitors are expected to familiarise themselves with it before coming to the Island, as penalties apply.

Good afternoon.

- How many rooms can be worked on at once?

When are works expected to be awarded and undertaken?

- Is temp fencing required for this project? If yes please advise current council hire rates for this project and confirm quantity available for hire.

- Will furnishings / appliances / gear currently stored in units etc be removed and stored by council prior to works starting.

- Can you advise what brand / type the commercial vinyl tiles are to be layed that will be supplied by the council. Are all fixings / glues etc required for the installation supplied also? Will council deliver these to site at nil cost to contractor?

Are security screens required for replacement windows? if yes, are they to be diamond grill or Crimsafe style?

Hi Brendan,

How many rooms can be worked on at once? All rooms will be vacated.

When are works expected to be awarded and undertaken? Tenders close on 6 October. We hope to take the recommendation to Council's Ordinary Meeting on 29 October for Council resolution. The contract will be awarded shortly thereafter should a resolution be achieved.

- Is temp fencing required for this project? If yes please advise current council hire rates for this project and confirm quantity available for hire. We do not believe temporary fencing is required. The demountable buildings are inside a gated area, and contained in a section of the compound.

Will furnishings / appliances / gear currently stored in units etc be removed and stored by council prior to works starting. – Yes we will take care of this, so all rooms are left empty ahead of the refurbishment.

Are security screens required for replacement windows? if yes, are they to be diamond grill or Crimsafe style? – Yes, security screens on all windows – Diamond grill will be fine.

What type of shelf and what size is required above the bar fridge? – We have a attached a diagram in 'files'.
