Muswellbrook Shire is a local government area in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is situated adjacent to the New England Highway and the Hunter railway line.

Muswellbrook Shire was established on 1 July 1979 from the amalgamation of the Municipality of Muswellbrook with the adjacent Denman Shire.

Muswellbrook Shire Council is seeking tenders from suitably qualified, licensed and experienced contractors to permanently decommission the former underground petroleum storage system (UPSS) and underground LPG storage infrastructure at Muswellbrook Marketplace, 72–78 Brook Street, Muswellbrook NSW 2333.

The preferred approach is permanent in-situ decommissioning because physical removal of the underground tanks is considered not reasonably practicable due to restricted access, excavation depth and the proximity of existing Marketplace structural elements. The works include petroleum product recovery, tank cleaning and gas-freeing, inert foam filling of petroleum USTs and associated pipework, specialist decommissioning and cementitious grout filling of the underground LPG vessel, removal of redundant above-ground fuel infrastructure and the oil/water separator, waste disposal, environmental validation and final decommissioning reporting.
