Details
The Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol (QBFP), operates a diverse fleet of commercially registered watercraft. This fleet ranges from 3.4m aluminium punts to our largest offshore vessel that is 24m and operates out to 200nm offshore.

The QBFP monitor compliance with State and Commonwealth legislation through field enforcement, investigation, surveillance, and inspection activities. They also undertake investigations of fisheries, fisheries habitat, and small craft safety non-compliance as well as education services that enable the community to develop knowledge and understanding of fisheries resource management and small craft safety. With over 160,000 recreational and 13,000 commercial vessels in use, compliance with laws is necessary to ensure both the safe use of waterways and the sustainability of our fisheries resources.

As part of the QBFP vessel replacement program the 6.5m vessel ‘Mentana’ located in Karumba has been identified as being due for replacement. This vessel is operated in Gulf of Carpentaria waters from the Norman River in Karumba north to Kowanyama and west to the Queensland - Northern Territory border. The vessel is used to ensure service delivery to the public and compliance activities.
