What the buyer is requesting
Details
The Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) building at the Hay Point lookout, in conjunction with
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) staff, provides an essential service in maintaining the
safety of life at sea within the Hay Point and Mackay regions. Operating continuously, 24
hours a day, seven days a week, the VTS ensures safe and efficient marine operations while
contributing to environmental protection.
The building is also utilised as the Pilot House for NQBP Marine Pilots operating at the Port
of Hay Point and Auriga carrying out helicopter marine pilot transfers. There is also a public
viewing area and toilets that are available for the public to use.
The VTS area plays a critical role in mitigating the development of unsafe situations through:
• The provision of timely and relevant information to support shipboard decision
making.
• The monitoring and management of vessel traffic to ensure safe and efficient
navigation.
• The ability to respond effectively to emerging unsafe situations.
Building occupiers have communications equipment on the roof of the building and this
equipment makes up the existing Antenna Farm. Refer to attachment 1 - Works Description
in the Minor Works Contract.
Significant repairs have been made in recent years to the roof to stop water ingress and
leaks. However, these works have not been successful, and the roof continues to experience
water penetration issues.
