Question
:
Hi Kyle,
Regarding Utility 6 and 7, Council has requested the supply and delivery of Space Cabs with a seating capacity of four or more. I wish to advise that Mazda Australia has confirmed to me that the current ANCAP safety rating does not permit rear seats fitted in Space Cab utilities. As a result, we are unable to supply a vehicle that meets Council’s requested configuration.
Additionally, Mazda has advised that some other manufacturers offering Space Cab utilities with rear seats had their specifications approved prior to the release of the current ANCAP safety regulations. These manufacturers will be required to comply with the updated ANCAP standards in order to sell new model vehicles in Australia.
Given this information, we will be submitting our offer in line with the current ANCAP safety requirements, supplying a Space Cab vehicle with a seating capacity of two.
Please let me know if any further clarification is needed.
Regards
Michael

:
Hi Michael
Thank you for the update and for outlining the impacts of the revised ANCAP safety requirements. Our specification for Utility 6 and 7 was issued on the general understanding that four-seat Space Cab models were still compliant and available across the market. We had not verified this with individual suppliers prior to release.
Your advice regarding Mazda Australia’s position, as well as the broader implications for other manufacturers, is appreciated and provides important context. Please proceed with submitting your offer for a compliant two-seat Space Cab configuration. As part of evaluation, we will assess it against the selection criteria alongside other submissions and consider whether any adjustments to our requirements are necessary to align with current safety standards and practical market availability.
