What the buyer is requesting
Details
Tamworth Regional Council is seeking quotations for the installation of a new concrete surface at Marsupial Park, Tamworth. The scope of works includes the removal and disposal of existing infrastructure, including seating with attached shade structures, synthetic turf, pavers, mulch, and existing concrete. Existing tree trunks and stump within the project area will be removed by others and are not part of this contract.
The proposed slab is to be constructed with a thickness of 100mm and reinforced with SL82 mesh, covering an approximate area of 75 square meters and finished with a broom texture suitable for pedestrian use. Control joints are to be saw-cut at intervals not exceeding 3 meters, with expansion joints installed at no more than 15-meter intervals and where the slab meets fixed structures. Due to limited vehicle and truck access to the site, a mandatory site inspection is required prior to submission of quotes to assess logistical constraints and confirm final levels. Contractors are expected to factor in all demolition, preparation, and installation requirements within their submission.
Contractors are to inform themselves of all measurements prior to submitting a price and shall be deemed to have satisfied themselves as to the accuracy and completeness of all dimensions, quantities, and site conditions relevant to the scope of works.
To organise a mandatory site inspection, please email Zac Wheatley at z.wheatley@tamworth.nsw.gov.au to arrange a suitable time.
Background information / Compatibility requirements
Details
The existing site at Marsupial Park comprises a mix of surface materials—including synthetic turf, pavers, mulch, and concrete—installed at varying heights and transitions. This patchwork layout has created uneven levels and inconsistent footing, which pose a safety hazard for park visitors, particularly children and elderly users. The proposed concrete slab installation aims to eliminate these risks by delivering a unified, level surface that improves accessibility, durability, and ease of maintenance.
Compatibility with existing infrastructure and surrounding landscape features must be considered during construction, with care taken to ensure smooth integration and appropriate drainage. The new surface will support future upgrades and provide a safer, more functional space for public use.
Desired Outcomes ('Nice to haves', Conditions & Warranties, SLA's, Project benefits)
Details
The primary outcome is the delivery of a safe, durable, and visually cohesive concrete surface that improves accessibility and usability at Marsupial Park. The new slab should eliminate the current hazards caused by multiple surface types at varying heights, which have created trip risks and uneven transitions for park visitors. A uniform finish and level installation are essential to ensure long-term safety and ease of maintenance.
Conditions:
- All works must comply with Tamworth Regional Council’s C271 Concrete Works specification and relevant Australian Standards
- Site inspection is mandatory prior to quote submission
- Contractors must coordinate access and logistics due to restricted vehicle entry
