What the buyer is requesting
Details
This project will ensure a fit for purpose long term solution for water infrastructure to meet current and future water demand for the community. The water infrastructure is critical in supplying safe and reliable potable water across the community of Aurukun.
Please refer to the Specification which defines the scope of works and detailed requirements for the construction of a new treated water reservoir and pumpstation in Aurukun. The works include, but is not limited to, associated mechanical, geotechnical, civil, structural, and electrical components. This specification is to be read in conjunction with the scope of works, project drawings, and all relevant standards.
Background information / Compatibility requirements
Details
Aurukun Shire Council (ASC) in Northwest Queensland, approximately 830 km north-west of Cairns, near the Gulf of Carpentaria with a current population of approximately 1124 people and is one of 16 Indigenous councils in Queensland. With projected population growth expected to be 1275 in the year 2035 therefore the demand for essential services, including safe and reliable drinking water, is expected to increase. The community experiences isolation for up to five months during the wet season however barge access is available for emergency supplies.
ASCs Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has insufficient treatment capacity, limited life expectancy, and insufficient treatment barriers to meet health-based targets. The current water infrastructure is serviceable but aged and requires investment to upgrade technology for a sustainable water supply system for the community of Aurukun.
In 2025 consultants were engaged by the Department of Local Government, Water and volunteers to complete a concept design. As part of this concept design, the consultants determined the treated water reservoir volume required to service the current and future community drinking water demands.
