Business Info
The Central Highlands region is in Central Queensland, Australia. The region encompasses an area of around 60 000 square kilometres, making it just short of the size of Tasmania.
It is home to around 30 000 people who live in the thirteen unique communities of Arcadia Valley, Bauhinia, Blackwater, Bluff, Capella, Comet, Dingo, Duaringa, Emerald, Rolleston, Sapphire Gemfields, Springsure and Tieri.
Our region is rich in minerals and agriculture, thriving on irrigation sourced from water storage on the Nogoa and Comet rivers. We claim the largest sapphire-producing fields in the Southern Hemisphere.
Major freight routes through the region include the north-south link between Charters Towers and northern New South Wales—identified as the inland transport alternative between Cairns and Melbourne.

Question
:
Good morning,
We have a few questions and would appreciate your clarification on the following:
1. Curt Street – McDonalds interfacing works / driveway
Could Council please provide further detail regarding the driveway construction works at the interface with the private property on the northern side of Curt Street?
Could Council also please confirm the required driveway pavement type and thickness in accordance with drawing CMDG-R-042A?
Based on the tender drawings, it appears that the existing rubbish bin and concrete base may conflict with the proposed driveway construction. Could Council therefore please confirm whether removal, disposal, relocation, reinstatement, or replacement of these items is required as part of the contract works?
2. Curt Street – Failing pavement reconstruction
We have observed a section of failing pavement along Curt Street between designed islands 04, 06 and 03A.
Could Council please confirm whether this section of pavement is to be reconstructed under the contract, or whether it is excluded from the current scope of works?
We note that the proposed new pavement markings are likely to conflict with this failing pavement area.
3. Curt Street – Pavement reinstatement to demolished median islands
Could Council please provide the required backfilling and pavement reinstatement detail for areas where existing median islands are to be demolished, including pavement composition, materials, depths, and final surface treatment requirements? Could Council also please confirm whether backfilling with cold mix asphalt is acceptable?
4. Curt Street – Pavement backfill adjacent to new channels (Kerb 03 and Kerb 04)
Could Council please confirm whether a minimum width of pavement construction adjacent to the new inset channel sections is required? Could Council also please confirm whether the backfill is to follow the typical pavement detail, or whether cold mix asphalt will be acceptable?
5. Curt Street – Median Island 05 and drainage line
Could Council please confirm whether Median Island 05 is intended to be located across the drainage line? It is anticipated that this section may need to be constructed with a channel profile to allow water to drain freely through the section perpendicular to the median island alignment. If this is correct, could Council please provide the relevant alignment, connection, and interface details for pricing and construction purposes?
6. Curt Street – Existing pavement markings
Based on the BOQ, Item 52119 appears to allow for removal of existing transverse lines or shapes. Could Council please confirm the required treatment for removal of these markings? Possible treatments may include obliteration by water blasting, painting over with black paint, and application of a polymer modified bitumen emulsion to obscure the pavement surface
7. Curt Street – Protection of existing trees
The existing trees appear to be in close proximity to the proposed construction area. Could Council please confirm the requirements for protection of existing trees during the works? Could Council also please advise whether an arborist is required during excavation to ensure roots are not damaged?
8. Egerton Street – Ramp pavement treatment detail
Could Council please confirm the pavement construction detail for the ramp in front of the footpath pavement around Ch 130? The ramp currently appears to be shown as both resurfacing and pavement construction. While the required shape could be constructed using flexible pavement, it appears that a concrete ramp may be more suitable. Could Council please clarify how this ramp is intended to be constructed and provide the relevant detail?
9. Egerton Street – Dowel control joint application (Drawing R0082425-D-E0003)
Could Council please confirm whether the dowelled control joint detail applies only to footpath pavements connecting to kerb and channel profiles, and/or whether it also applies to the median island concrete infill sections adjoining the respective kerb profiles? It is assumed that dowels would not be required in the thin median section, however confirmation would be appreciated.
10. Egerton Street – New rigid pavement jointing detail (Drawing R0082425-D-E1010)
Could Council please confirm the required detail at the interface between the new rigid pavement parking bays and the existing outer perimeter kerbing/footpath?
11. Egerton Street – Stormwater drainage and footpath requirements
Could Council please confirm whether the stormwater drainage culvert, grouted rock beaching, footpath pavement, and associated fencing are required under the Egerton Street scope? It is noted that these works appear to have already been completed by others. If these works are not to proceed under the current scope of works, could Council please confirm how the proposed works are intended to tie into this area?
12. Egerton Street – Remove existing tree and stump
Could Council please confirm whether removal of the existing tree and stump around Ch 10 is required as part of the scope of works? At present, this item does not appear to be included in the BOQ.
13. Yamala Street – Wheel stops
Could Council please advise whether wheel stops are required between Ch 120 and Ch 140 as shown on drawing R0082425-D-Y1001?
14. Yamala Street – Stormwater drainage and footpath requirements
Could Council please confirm whether the stormwater drainage culvert, grouted rock beaching, footpath pavement, and associated fencing are required under the Yamala Street scope? It is noted on drawing R0082425-D-Y1004 that: “Hold culvert crossing and associated work until approved”. If these works are not to proceed under the current scope of works, could Council please confirm how the works are intended to tie into this area?
15. Yamala Street – Remove existing light pole
Could Council please confirm whether removal of the existing light pole is excluded from the scope of works and is to be completed by others, as indicated on drawing R0082425-D-Y1003?
We would appreciate Council’s response to the above queries at the earliest opportunity.
Thank you
