Question:
The specification requests devices supporting LoRaWAN 1.0.2 or higher. Would Urban Utilities consider alternative low-power wide area network (LPWAN) technologies such as NB-IoT or Cat M1 for this application, provided they meet or exceed all other technical, functional, and cost requirements?

Answered on 21/Jul/2025 04:40 PM:

Urban Utilities have undertaken a prior procurement for the LPWAN and other technologies in relation to Sewer level monitoring. This procurement is specifically for LoRaWAN based supply only. Thanks.

Question:
Good Morning,

Based on the volume of units required in this supply arrangement, does Urban Utilities have an approximation of how many kilometres of sewer line that they intend to monitor?

Extending thanks in advance.

Answered on 06/Aug/2025 06:28 PM:

Monitoring locations are targeted and prioritised. For larger catchments optimisation modelling is used to identify the optimal location of level sensors and prioritise sensor deployment to meet objectives and maximise risk reduction. The modelling assesses multiple factors and data points in addition to length of pipe. For the priority catchment and subject of the initial device types and quantities outlined in SP03 of the Specification, its estimated this could cover up to 120km of sewer pipe.
