Transport of Food and Garden Organics (FOGO) from Katoomba Waste Management Facility to Australian Naive Landscapes (ANL) Blayney.

Council is planning to introduce a Food and Garden Organics (FOGO) collection service for all residents in July 2027. New contracts for all three services are scheduled to commence at the start date of Council’s new FOGO service on 1 July 2027.

The new FOGO processing contract has been awarded to ANL, with FOGO to be processed at their Blayney facility. The new kerbside collection contract has been awarded to JJ’s Waste & Recycling and involves delivering FOGO to the Katoomba Waste Management Facility (KWMF) where it will be temporarily stored in the transfer station building before being loaded into trucks by Council staff for bulk transport to ANL’s Blayney facility. This procurement is for this bulk transport of FOGO from KWMF to ANL Blayney.

Transporting FOGO to ANL Blayney will enable this material to be converted into compost to enrich soil for gardens and crops, rather than being wasted in landfill where it would generate greenhouse gases and leachate.

Facilitate the diversion of FOGO from landfill, this procurement will ensure the continuing contribution to the following two Progress Measures specifically:

• Decrease total waste going to landfill per capita.

• Increase proportion of waste diverted from landfill.

Tenderers that do not attend and do not receive an exemption may be excluded from consideration.
